Dear Sandy~

Here is a note from Sandy-

Hi Elliot,

My name is Sandy.
"MUSIC IS AN OUTBURST OF THE SOUL" ....Frederick Dubois ...
I agree- I have been a music "fan" all my life, from the time of growing up in the 1940's and listening to the radio and the Big Band era, to learning to roller skate after high school and hearing new sounds: the Hammond organ and the larger sound of the theater pipe organ, to the rock-n-Roll era. Then I almost died 13 years ago when I developed Sepsis. My friend brought me a CD of a Jazz Band (1920's) and knew I would like it. I had someone bring my Boom-box to me so I could hear that CD gift and others CD's of my music. I know the feeling of "alone," as I was isolated in a separate room because of my illness. Because of a throat injury while in a coma, I had a vocal cord damage and could not speak well as my vocal cords were severely damaged. I don't go anywhere now w/o my CD's. I have learned with my computer and software to download songs from You Tube and "make" my own CD's.

How I want to help...: I am a support group leader for those who have Celiac Disease & gut issues, so I want to help others. I want to know WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP ??? WHERE DO YOU GET THE MUSIC? I AM FAIRLY FAMILIAR WITH 1920'S, LOVE THE 1930'S (MY FAVORITE TIME OF MUSIC!), VERY GOOD WITH 1940'S, AND 1950'S ARE SPECIAL TO ME TOO ..... i ONLY AM FAMILIAR WITH MUSIC TO THE MID-1960'S .....
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF MOVIES ? WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE WONDERFUL 1930'S AND 1940'S MUSICALS WITH THE STARS WHO WERE FAMOUS ? THERE ARE TEN WONDERFUL GINGER ROGERS AND FRED ASTAIRE MOVIES ..... ABOUT 7-8 FILMS WITH ELEANOR POWELL, THE FAMOUS TAP DANCER. i COULD GO ON AND ON ..... ALEXANDER'S RAGTIME bAND IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES WITH ALICE FAYE

I WOULD DONATE MONEY BUT I STILL HAVE HEALTH ISSUES WHICH I MUST PAY OUT OF POCKET ... BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS SOME OTHER WAY TO HELP MAKE YOUR GOAL HAPPEN. GOD BLESS ...

Here is my answer-

Sandy,

Sorry about your Sepsis!  But, that sure taught you what you and I have known for decades
[I was born in 1944], MUSIC HEALS!
It's amazing isn't it... two bars into it, and our toes and our hearts are tapping.

Videos?  Have you seen the collection of dance scenes from those films you noted?  Here's the URL

Be prepared to jump up and dance.

Also, have you seen "That's Entertainment I and II and III?"

With regard to music for the target audience, it's simple to pick it:

-For "girls", it's the music which was popular in the years they were 10- 17 years old
-For "boys", it's the music which was popular in the years they were 13- 21 years old

There are all sorts of Billboard compilations and other CDs you can buy which have "The Top .. of 1941, 1942.... 1959" AND top big band hits etc.

Don't worry about music after the 1960s, as the folks who grew up loving the music of the 1970s 1980s, 1990s etc. are tooooooooo young to be in the care facilities yet.

Any other questions, "Bring 'em on!"
