We Honor the Memory of
Mrs. Waldston*
With love from Illana, and (friend Bridget)
*
Mrs Waldston, 93, was a force. An incredibly strong and fearless woman
she didn't know the meaning of "It's impossible", she took that as a gauntlet thrown.
She was an officer, an entrepreneur, a lover of culture, a great baker, a dancer,
a bridge and tennis player and, of course a fantastic wife and mother. It was for her that, along with several good friends, Toronto's Recollectiv was founded
to give those with Dementia and their care partners a chance to enjoy music participation together.

We Honor the Memory of
Joel Horwitz*
With love from Michelle, Elizabeth, Alan and Jane
*
Joel Horwitz, 81, was originally from Oak Park, IL and later Denver, CO.
Joel was the doting father of Elizabeth and Michelle Horwitz, proud grandfather of Alan Weintraub, dear son of the late Alvin and Minnie Horwitz, and loyal brother of Jane Horwitz.
Joel was an alumnus of Stanford University, where he earned a degree in philosophy — an experience he cherished for life. He was a world traveler who explored five continents and made sure to visit all 50 U.S. states. In his young adulthood, he could be found flying in the skies in his Mooney aircraft. Joel was particularly gifted at writing and expressing his heartfelt sentiments at family gatherings, taking most pride in how he eulogized his father and hero.A devoted baseball fan, he enjoyed pretzels and beer while rooting for his beloved Chicago White Sox and later the Colorado Rockies. Joel was a true pal to Denver buddies like Ron and John, always their go-to guy for burgers, old-car shows, and symphonies.
In his final days, Joel was surrounded by family. They gratefully witnessed him savor the sounds of Itzhak Perlman playing the Beethoven and Brahms Violin Concertos. As Perlman’s honeyed high notes filled the room, his grandson Alan walked in to find him air-conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra. Elizabeth and Michelle, at their father’s bedside, provided additional accompaniment with interpretative dance.
Joel’s family is thankful to the Alive Inside documentary film for the inspiration to use music to bring him some happiness at this stage of life.

In Memory of
Milton and Shannon KayeWith Love, Benjamin Breen
*Milton Kaye, a pianist and arranger who moved with ease from accompanying Heifetz to writing theme music for the TV quiz show “Concentration,” from playing in Toscanini’s orchestra to playing the organ on “The Rootie Kazootie Show,” died on Monday in Manhattan.
He was 97. Before entering the hospital, where he died of pneumonia, he practiced some Bach and Beethoven as usual, finishing with a bit of Mozart, his wife, Shannon Bolin, said.
Mr. Kaye represented a real but rare New York archetype: the talented musician who could and did play solo in Carnegie Hall, but more often was an integral part of groups, from top orchestras to children’s television ensembles to chamber music quartets to ragtime combos. It was a job, yes, but always more than a job.
